YNGWIE TO APPEAR AT LONDON GUITAR SHOW

FENDER GETTING CLOSER TO RELEASING "DUCK" CUSTOM SHOP REPLICA
As reported a couple of years ago Fender have been working with Yngwie in producing a limited custom shop run of his most famous guitar "Duck" (the guitar on the cover of the Rising Force album). Fender Frontline have just posted the following:

Yngwie Malmsteen—the very name alone strikes awestruck wonder into the hearts of guitarists worldwide. Yngwie Malmsteen—the Swedish Stratocaster® wunderkind; the fiery and flamboyant showman extraordinaire; the charmingly outspoken enfant terrible of metal; the Paganini of the electric guitar. His classically inspired fleet-fingered technique and apocalyptic guitar sound continue to mesmerize listeners today just as they did when the world first felt his Fender-fueled fury in the early 1980s with Steeler, Alcatrazz and Malmsteen’s landmark 1984 solo debut, Rising Force.

Then as now, Malmsteen often worked his magic on an Olympic White 1971 Fender Stratocaster guitar nicknamed “The Duck.” He bought the guitar in Sweden in 1978 while still a teenager, himself performing the unusual and delicate modification of scalloping the fingerboard. The guitar has taken a beating over the years (and even a burning or two) as Malmsteen’s main stage and studio guitar; played in countless concert appearances and used on each of his many solo albums.

DOOGIE WHITE RECORDING HIS DEBUT SOLO ALBUM WITH ALL STAR CAST
Former vocalist Doogie White has updated his website with the following:

"As Ronnie is off with Tony Iommi, touring and working on a new Heaven and Hell album I thought it was time to do some writing with my good friend Craig Goldy. We have written 5 songs together. I have also been working with Paul Logue from Eden's Curse. In total we have 16 killer tunes to work on. I have assembled the great, good and unwashed for this. We started in the autumn last year, kicking ideas around. Between us we have come up with some dynamic and aggressive rawk songs covering a colourful spectrum of hard rock. The drums were recorded in Florida late last year and we are now laying down the guitars, bass and keyboards. So far I have secured the awesome talents of Craig Goldy and Pontus Norgren, Rudy Sarzo, Neil Murray and Greg Smith, Patrik Johansson and the very splendid Derek Sherinian. In addition to these guys Rata Blanca's guitarist and mainman Walter Giardino has agreed to play on a couple of songs. It's early days but the album is coming together very nicely. Its good to be stepping out and not be in the constricts of a band situation where the demands of others sometime outway the sensibility and understanding of the songs. I believe the work we have done so far is interesting, different and valid. Fuck me!! I sound like a car sales man, but its true, this will be an album that covers many aspects of music that I have enjoyed over the years and then some. I have also contacted my old friend Ritchie Blackmore's management to asked if he would be interested in playing on a song or two. Hell we could even work on some of the ideas we had for the aborted follow up to SIUA. While I dont think he will, I thought it only polite to ask".

NEW BAND LINE UP CONFIRMED
Yngwie has confirmed that along with the previously announced new vocalist of Tim "Ripper" Owens on vocals, the new official keyboardist is Michael Troy (who recently played on the final leg of the Unleash The Fury world tour in South America) and long term drummer Patrik Johansson. Yngwie will handle all bass duties once again.

TIM "RIPPER" OWENS IS NEW MALMSTEEN VOCALIST
Former Judas Priest/Iced Earth singer Tim "Ripper" Owens has now officially joined Yngwie's band. The legendary Swedish guitarist announced the news to the Guitar World staff today when he came to the magazine's New York headquarters for an exclusive interview and photo shoot.

Malmsteen and Owens are hard at work on a new CD, which is currently scheduled for a July release (TBC).

Owens and Malmsteen previously collaborated on a cover of OZZY OSBOURNE's "Mr. Crowley", which appeared on the "Flying High Again: The World's Greatest Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne", released in March 2006 via Magick Records. Listen to the track on YouTube.

Owens recently worked with Queensryche guitarist Michael Wilton on demo recordings for the new Soulbender album (Wilton's side project).

Owens's predecessor, Doogie White, was a member of Yngwie Malmsteen's band for six and a half years. Doogie joined Malmsteen's band in September 2001 and recorded two albums with the legendary Swedish guitarist: "Attack" (2002) and "Unleash the Fury" (2005).

"I had a long chat with Yngwie today and it is clear that he wants to move musically in a new direction," Doogie said in a statement that was released to blabbermouth.net earlier today. "It's great news that he will be expanding on his undoubted talents both as a writer and guitarist. I just want to thank, publicly, Yngwie and the many band members past and present that I have worked with. It seems appropriate that we started our working relationship in South America in September 2001 and finished in South America in December 2007. Now, anyone need a singer??"

YNGWIE UNLEASHES THE FURY ON MYSPACE
Anne Petty at the official Yngwie Malmsteen fanclub/website has informed that Yngwie now has his own official myspace profile built by the MySpace designers. This came about because Yng's lawyers contacted the MySpace admins and established his identity, and demanded removal of all the fake Yngwies.and it looks great too! Apparently traffic has been so high the myspace server crashed - fans unleashing the fury?

MARK BOALS RETURNS WITH 'THE CODEX'
Frontiers Records will release an album from the brand new Mark Boals/Magnus Karlsson collaboration, THE CODEX, on November 9, 2007.

THE CODEX marks the return to recording — after a three-year hiatus — for Mark Boals, who has previously worked with YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and who was named Best Singer in 1999 by the readers of Japan's Burrn! magazine. Mark also released three successful solo albums and fronted the power-prog metal band RING OF FIRE (which such musical giants as Virgil Donati, Tony MacAlpine and Vitalij Kuprij), with whom he released another three studio albums and one live CD/DVD.

"I am feeling great, better than ever!" says Boals about his comeback. "I was interested in working with Magnus after hearing his work, I love his guitar playing, and of course his songwriting is superb! There are great melodies and I really enjoyed singing on this one. It's really a catchy album, and I have been listening to it a lot, which I rarely do with my work."

Boals' partner in crime on THE CODEX is another Swedish guitar-wizard, Magnus Karlsson, a super-talented and busy guy who is also the mastermind behind STARBREAKER (with Tony Harnell) and the recent very successful ALLEN/LANDE collaboration.

"It's really an honour to work with such a fantastic singer," states Karlsson. "It's very easy to write for Mark because he has this enormous vocal range. I have never heard anything like it! He sings some unbelievably high notes and he does it so beautiful. Musically I wanted to stretch the borders a little more than usual, with almost a power metal style in some songs and very soft parts in others. I use a lot of orchestral arrangement to make it bigger but at the same time I try to leave space for the heaviness in the guitars, drums and bass. I also wanted this to be an album with focus on the vocals and melody as I always do but I added a lot of guitar shredding as well."

Completing the line-up are Linus Abrahamson on bass and Daniel Flores (MIND'S EYE) on drums.

"The Codex" is truly a creative and diverse album which shows a very different side of Karlsson songwriting and gives Boals the chance to showcase some of his most aggressive and heaviest vocals ever. It is probably the heaviest CD where the two artists have ever been involved with, still keeping intact the trademarks of a monster melodic metal album.

YNGWIE AND JOE LYNN TURNER REUNITE FOR SPECIAL PERFORMANCE
Back in 1989, Joe Lynn Turner and Yngwie Malmsteen played over a dozen sold out shows in Leningrad and Moscow in Russia. Seventeen years later, the legendary vocalist and guitarist were invited back to Russia's capital by the Prime Minister for a command performance for his cabinet and staff on Russian Independence Day.

It was an intimate show for about 75 people but the prestigious restaurant setting did not prevent the house from rocking! It also planted the seed for a reunion that many rock fans had been hoping to see since Malmsteen and Turner went their separate ways shortly after those historical concerts in the late 1980s. JLT and Yngwie each did separate sets but the night capped off with a jam session featuring both on the same stage. They did a couple DEEP PURPLE songs and some classics from their Malmsteen-Turner collection, including the haunting ballad "Dreaming", off their 1988 release "Odyssey".

According to Turner, this stint was also memorable because of what went on off stage. He said, "I was treated like a king for a few days with lavish accommodations. I had a Mercedes limousine and driver on call to take me shopping or where ever I wanted to go. I was also humbled by the extravagant gifts people gave me because they had been touched by my music."

Fans of both artists know that the duo put aside their differences in 1996 when they teamed up for some DEEP PURPLE cover tunes on Malmsteen's "Inspiration" album. However, this was the first time both had played together on stage since the late Eighties. Joe has since been to Russia many times recently and one of his trips included recording an album with Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH) and the Lieutenant Mayor of Moscow Mikhail Men.

Turner described the night as, "magical," and said he did not rule out the possibility of working with Malmsteen again in the future. He said, "The ice (between Yngwie and I) has been broken."

DOOGIE WHITE UPDATES

"Had a very long chat with Yngwie this week and all things being equal I will be flying to Miami to record vocals for his next opus in July. I think some of the time in Miami may be spent looking round car showrooms for a new Ferrari for him but I doubt vey much if he will let me drive it after my gear crunching attempt to drive the last one".

In other Doogie news:
Doogie has just contributed some vocals for the next Royal Hunt album (although Doogie is not the next singer to replace the departed John West). Work has also started on a DW solo album with some songs currently being penned with Dio guitarist Craig Goldy. Cornerstone have just signed a new Japanese deal with hopes of some live dates to follow in Japan. Finally June will see Doogie head to Japan to laid down a vocal track for Japanese guitarist OMURA.

JOE LYNN TURNER / NEW SOLO ALBUM SECOND HAND LIFE
“Second Hand Life” is Joe Lynn Turner's new studio album, his tenth solo release. This time Joe wanted to go straight back to his melodic rock roots. Therefore, he worked on the song writing with such luminaries as Jim Peterik (ex Survivor), Bob Held, Karl Cochran, Martin Briley. He also managed to include a track that he co-wrote with Ritchie Blackmore, Jim Peterik and Roger Glover entitled "Stroke of Midnight."

The players on the new disc include long-time collaborators Karl Cochran (Ace Frehley) on guitar and bass, Bob Held on bass, Gary Corbett on keyboards and former Damn Yankees - now with Lynyrd Skynyrd - drummer Michael Cartellone.

In Joe's words: “I would describe the new album as a hybrid between The Usual Suspects and Sunstorm, my recent studio project which received more positive reviews than any of my solo CDs since Rescue You. I felt that the fans wanted to hear more music in this melodic rock vein. So...I think we delivered on this forthcoming album”

Second Hand Life is released on Frontiers Records on April 20th 2007.

A band called Air Pavilion with guitar player and songwriter Takaaki Yonemochi and his band.  Göran will do 2 songs on the next album. The titles are "1982" and "Bow to a demon".

The other is a project by Michael Voss is working on with a lot of artists involved. Good old AOR... Other vocalists involved are Russ Ballard, Jean Beauvoir, Terry Brock and Harry Hess.

NAMM PERFORMANCE AND NEW FENDER SIGNATURE STRATOCASTER INFO
Yngwie recently had a very successful visit to the NAMM music industry trade show performing at the Fender booth showcasing his updated signature Stratocaster which features a bullet truss rod, white pickguard and deeper scallops more in line with the vintage instruments he uses.
